God’s Creation

This entire Doodles to Live By has been an inspiration and eye opening devotional, totally loved.  “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” 1 Galatians 1:10 ESV

On Day 13 the image was of eye glasses, something I’m very familiar with since I have been wearing them since 3rd or 4th grade. Its not easy growing up wearing glasses.  The names you are called by people  and some family “four eyes”, “spec”, “coke bottle” (since my glasses were and still are thick”, and etc.  Its hard being a kid with glasses, so in my 20s I decided to ry contracts and I wore them 20 years.  It was difficult at first but after years I got use to them it was my way of feeling comfortable or was it a way for me to please other people and not be made fun of.

Well in the last three years of living in Atlanta I started wearing only glasses.  One reason after looking at a computer all day my eyes were blood shot red and secondly I just got tired of trying to fit into someone else’s image of what I should look like.  I was not the kid in high school who people teased I was a grown educated woman who wanted to be able to see and rub my eyes if needed.

Growing up I felt so out of place, I felt like I was cursed and would never fit in.  The issue in today’s society we are shown pictures of these individuals on television and magazines who look flawless and that is what society feel they should look like, well God created me in his image and he makes no mistakes.  I am happy in my own skin color, hair type, body size, and my quirky thick glasses.

Stop trying to please others and fit into a place that is not you, be you and work what the good Lord gave you.  You are beautiful, talented, smart, and loved by the best father anyone could have – GOD.

Patience

“Be patient, then brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.” (James 5:7 NIV)

Easier said than to do- believe me it’s something I work at every single day. During my time of being homeless, I lost patience every day. I questioned God, cursed, and yelled. I was pissed that I was going through this situation. All I ever wanted was to live a good life and be happy. Again that’s what I wanted but God wants more.

IMG_1340Patience is suffering, we all must go through the flame to get to the other side. The blessed are those who “PERSEVERED”. We all saw Job and all that hew went through, but he persevered also with much and much patience and look what God brought about. Our God is full of compassion and mercy but we must be patient and pray.

Yes it’s hard to see others get all their heart desires but we are only seeing the outside. We don’t know what struggles they have gone through in life or how long the process of patience took them. Whether you are in trouble or happy stay in prayer and while in prayer be truthful and full of love in your heart. For what is for you no man can take, God again knows what he has for us. Slow and steady with patience will succeed every time.

Submission

Submitting yourselves to God is easier said than done but this is what we must do to be receive all God has for us.

We ask God for things we desire but we are battling not only with ourselves but with others and we put them on a hIMG_1339igher post and think God will grant our desires – NO. You must SUBMIT yourselves totally.

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

James 4:6 NIV

When we ask God and we don’t receive it’s because we have the wrong motives and God knows that so we need to ask in a deeper passionate of submission. One way is resisting the devil, getting closer to God, washing your hands of the past, and purifying your heart. It must be a full submission of your heart, body, and soul.

Planning for Tomorrow, WHY? Saying what you are going to do, where you are going, how much money you are going to make. Boasting about tomorrow and you don’t even know what will happen in the next minute. I have learned on a personal note don’t PLAN. God laughs at your plans, “For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)

Instead just say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:15, NIV) –enjoy and live your life for we don’t know the seconds, minutes, or hour our breath shall be taken. So submit.

Faith & Restraint

The book of James Chapters 2 & 3 focuses on these two words: Faith & Restraint which are defined.

Faith is defined as complete trust or confidence & strong belief in God or in the doctrine of a religion.  Restraint is defined as a measure or condition that keeps someone or something under control or within limits. IMG_1337

Faith without works is Dead, because faith apart from works is useless (James 2:20, ESV). Abraham believed in God no matter what and was called a friend of God (James 2:23, ESV). No matter the circumstance and yes I know that’s hard don’t lose faith and remember you must have works.  Remember, for as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead (James 2:26, ESV).

Taming the Tongue, can be the hardest thing for any human to do.  We all get frustrated and we scream in an outburst of frustration and believe what is happening is the worse, when in fact it’s a test of our restraint.  From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so (James 3:10, ESV).  I am guilty of this yes I speak well when things are going good but when just a moment of frustration steps in and out of the mouth blessing came cursing follows.  I need to do better because God has brought me so far.

Things in our life will not always go the way the want- God knows what is best and test will always be with us, we must learn to trust God no matter the situation without any doubt and know from the frustration will come a blessing.  God never fails.  So remember Keep the Faith, have Works, and Tame the Tongue.

Perseverance – Book of James

Yes it’s that word again which I’ve spoken about previously and now it’s the topic for the first chapter of the Book of James.  It’s a constant reminder to never give up always strive even when the road seem long – DON’T STOP.

IMG_1336

Which brings me to – Chapter one of James. This chapter speaks

of rejoicing when you have trials and tribulations and when your wisdom

is lack ask in faith without doubt. Tribulations make you stronger so keep pushing. Yes its hard cause you want to give up but during this slow pace you continue the race. The chapter interpretation on Perseverance reminds me of a story the tortoise and the hare.

The hare felt he was unbeatable at anything he bragged all the time. He also bragged that the tortoise couldn’t beat him because he was slow and was no threat to him. So the hare challenged the tortoise to a race and the tortoise accepted. Remember when you try to take someone down you could be the one going down.

The hare felt confident in himself so much he stops during the race and falls asleep. While the hare sleeps the tortoise continues onward ve

ry slowly but without stopping and he wins the race.

When someone boasts about winning or being better than others – worry. As the chapter states “..so also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.” (James 1:11b, ESV).

Well that’s what happens, moral to the lesson; you can be successful by doing things slowly than acting careless and cocky. Just stay in you lane and don’t try to rush things, perseverance will get you to the finish line.

Book of James

“ …faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”

James 2:17 (NLT Parallel Study Bible) Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 8.14.36 PM

So it takes more than FAITH to be committed to change in your life. Let me tell you, I know that for sure, my journey was based on FAITH but others of myself had to change to make me the persona I am today.

The book of James provides that need to change I choice three that stands out:

  • Stop looking down on others
  • Anyone can falter, don’t judge
  • Everyone is on a different journey- don’t criticize choices

We must learn to be committed to our FAITH and show ourselves in accordance with our FAITH and not be a sometimer. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror not the outer and see if we are living our lives to what we proclaim.

Yes we are all a work in progress but the question would be when does the work truly begin and what steps must we begin to follow our journey.

I will be looking at the five chapters of James in upcoming biblejournaling and the concepts they teach for us to follow our FAITH.
