God’s Creation

This entire Doodles to Live By has been an inspiration and eye opening devotional, totally loved.  “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” 1 Galatians 1:10 ESV

On Day 13 the image was of eye glasses, something I’m very familiar with since I have been wearing them since 3rd or 4th grade. Its not easy growing up wearing glasses.  The names you are called by people  and some family “four eyes”, “spec”, “coke bottle” (since my glasses were and still are thick”, and etc.  Its hard being a kid with glasses, so in my 20s I decided to ry contracts and I wore them 20 years.  It was difficult at first but after years I got use to them it was my way of feeling comfortable or was it a way for me to please other people and not be made fun of.

Well in the last three years of living in Atlanta I started wearing only glasses.  One reason after looking at a computer all day my eyes were blood shot red and secondly I just got tired of trying to fit into someone else’s image of what I should look like.  I was not the kid in high school who people teased I was a grown educated woman who wanted to be able to see and rub my eyes if needed.

Growing up I felt so out of place, I felt like I was cursed and would never fit in.  The issue in today’s society we are shown pictures of these individuals on television and magazines who look flawless and that is what society feel they should look like, well God created me in his image and he makes no mistakes.  I am happy in my own skin color, hair type, body size, and my quirky thick glasses.

Stop trying to please others and fit into a place that is not you, be you and work what the good Lord gave you.  You are beautiful, talented, smart, and loved by the best father anyone could have – GOD.

Submission

Submitting yourselves to God is easier said than done but this is what we must do to be receive all God has for us.

We ask God for things we desire but we are battling not only with ourselves but with others and we put them on a hIMG_1339igher post and think God will grant our desires – NO. You must SUBMIT yourselves totally.

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

James 4:6 NIV

When we ask God and we don’t receive it’s because we have the wrong motives and God knows that so we need to ask in a deeper passionate of submission. One way is resisting the devil, getting closer to God, washing your hands of the past, and purifying your heart. It must be a full submission of your heart, body, and soul.

Planning for Tomorrow, WHY? Saying what you are going to do, where you are going, how much money you are going to make. Boasting about tomorrow and you don’t even know what will happen in the next minute. I have learned on a personal note don’t PLAN. God laughs at your plans, “For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)

Instead just say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:15, NIV) –enjoy and live your life for we don’t know the seconds, minutes, or hour our breath shall be taken. So submit.

Samson- One more Time

The story begin in Judges 13th and conclude with 16th chapter. During this time the Philistines lived on the west side of Anaan, which is near the seacoast of the Mediterranean. They were also the number one enemy of Israel during this time and also out numbered the Israelites. There was a man name Manoah from the tribe of Dan whose wife was unable to have a child.

The angel informed her she would soon become pregnant and provided instructions on what she couldn’t do. The angel informed her don’t drink wine, or any alcoholic drink, nor eat forbidden food. The son was to be a Nazirite – (which is a person who took a vow to be set apart for God’s service) and also informed her his hair must NEVER be cut.img_6198

The woman went back to tell her husband all that the angel had told her. The angel spoke to Manoah and informed him his wife must follow all his instructions including other items.

When the son was born he was named Samson, the Lord was with him. A Philistine woman caught Samson’s eye and he told his father he wanted to marry her and asked him to get her. His parents did not approve but was unaware that the Lord was at work. The marriage was unblessed and his wife was soon taken from him by her father and given to a companion. Samson was angry and took out revenge on the Philistines. The Philistines felt Samson’s punishment and took out their own revenge by burning her and her father. Samson fell in love with Delilah. What Samson didn’t know is that the Philistines went to Delilah to entice Samson to find out what makes him strong.

Delilah tried everything but she knew Samson was not telling her the truth about his strength. Until after all her nagging he told her “My hair had never been cut, and he was dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth.”

Delilah got Samson to fall sleep and his hair was shaved and the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. The Philistine brought Samson into the temple to entertain them and Samson hair was growing back. With his anger of what had happen still he was thinking about revenge again for himself. Samson, prayed to the Lord “Sovereign Lord, remember me again..please strengthen me just one more time.”

As Samson stood between two center pillars and pushed against them with both hands, he prayed. “Let me die with the Philistines.” At that moment the entire temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people in the temple. At that moment Samson killed more people when he died than his entire lifetime.

Lesson Learned

Samson was to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth. God give him strength to fight Israel’s enemy instead he used it for his own revenge and he gave into temptation and was a womanizer full of sin. But God will use even a sinful man to enact his will

What’s so sad of this is Samson understood the true source of his strength but he never knew his true purpose. That is the truth in our life; there are many people given ability with such great talent but never truly knowing their purpose or destiny.

The main lesson is if we keep walking into temptations, will lead to sin and we will suffer the consequences for our disobedience. Our God will use a sinful individual to enact his will.

Minor and Major Prophets

screen-shot-2016-10-08-at-11-38-47-amAs I continue to read and learn more about the Bible I have a better understanding of the names of the books and why they are important to for us to know. Yes that is my love being able to embrace the “word” and learn more about the names of the books and their meaning.

I am still reading the Old Testament now in the book of Numbers, but I have taken a break and begin reading smaller books in the Bible and realizing they named for prophets – “minor or major”.

I have learned so much just in the small time of learning more of the Bible about the actual meaning and individuals that are mentioned. So in the next couple of weeks I will be blogging and journaling about these prophets what impact they had in the text of the Bible and how we can use it in today’s world.

Minor Prophets

Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Hephanih, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi

Major Prophets

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel

Background of the prophets:

Minor and major really is no big deal in the meaning of the prophets or that one is better than the other.

There are five books for the “major” prophets they have a combine chapters of 167 with Isaiah being the longest with 66 chapters.

There are 12 books for the “ minor” prophets they have a combine chapters of 67, with the shortest having only one chapter – Obadiah, this will be the book I will be blogging from next week.

In the mean time,  enjoy a blessed 3-day weekend and don’t forget to “absorb in the word” its not just on Sunday but 365 days.

Just Stay Calm: Escape through the Red Sea

Many times in life we have fear of things happening and wonder how we will handle the situation. I had a fear of a person always trying to make me look bad to our supervisor, I wanted to just get back at her, but some times we just need to stay calm and let the Lord help us and fight our battles for us.

Well that was the issue with Moses and the people of Israel. They had been traveling to the Promised Land and realize Pharaoh and his officials with over 600 chariots were pursuing them, and fear grew among the people and Moses told the people “ …just stay calm and the Lord will fight for you.” Exodus 14:14, NLT.

The fight came at the Red Sea when the angel of God who had been leading people of Israel moved to the rear and the pillar of cloud moved also to the rear. Moses raised his hand over the sea and the Lord opened up a path through the Red Sea for the people of Israel to walk through. The Egyptian with their chariots came into the open sea the Lord twisted their chariot wheels making it difficult for them to drive causing utter distress. The Egyptians shouted “The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.” Exodus 14:25, NLT.

img_2672

Once the Israelites had reached the other side, the Lord instructed to “Raise your hand over the sea again”, Exodus 14:27, NLT; then the water begin to fall back down and drowned the entire army of Pharaoh.

So when they put their trust in the Lord the fight was fought for them.

So when things go wrong in your life and you want to retaliate, just look to the Lord and he will “FIGHT FOR YOU” Have the faith to know the Lord will.

Book of Ruth

Ruth is said to be derived from the a Hebrew word meaning “friend”

The author of the book Ruth is the prophet Samuel, not for sure but is reported in other text.

The story begins with Ruth, her and her sister-in-law Orpah, and mother-in-law Naomi moving back to Bethlehem. All were widows and childless and Ruth informed both to return to their families, Orpah did return and left the Naomi and Ruth. But when Naomi asked Ruth again she refused to leave and wanted to stay with Naomi who she saw as a faithful woman and Ruth wanted to be the same type of woman. Ruth looked at Naomi and said– “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!” (Ruth 1:16-17 NLT)

So Ruth went with Naomi to Bethlehem in time for the spring harvest. Ruth set out to work in the fields to support herself and Naomi. Ruth worked in the field of Boaz, who was  related to Naomi late husband.img_2456

Boaz had heard about Ruth and how devoted to Naomi she was. Ruth worked hard in the fields and Boaz was impressed again with her determination. Later in the book their relationship developed and with Naomi helps Ruth went to Boaz (her redeemer) and later upon agreement they were married. From this marriage a son was born mane Obed father of Jesse and grandfather of David, King of Israel.

The story of Ruth was about a woman full of faith and honor. She devoted herself to Naomi and showed her humbleness in the presence of God. She had to work hard in a land where she was a foreigner and had no family; because of this determination and loyalty came gratification with becoming a wife and later a mother.

So for today’s society the book of Ruth is about God recognizes people of good character. I personally don’t believe things just happen by chance. God saw Ruth as faithful individual who put others before herself and because of her act God was working to bring things to happen in her life without her knowing. All good things will happen if we stay the course and remain patient and commit and keep following God’s path for your life.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9 NLT

WIP – Work in Progress

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13, NLT)

I am a Work In Progress (WIP) of spiritual transformation developing in the word of God. This is a slow process and spiritual maturity and the transformation will take the rest of my life. Everyday is a day of being unwrapped and rewrapped until the final day when Jesus returns or I get to Heaven.img_2404

I can remember back in the day; I thought I was doing what I needed to do – “Attend Church.” I would hear the pastor, took notes, and sing to the hymns but after church I would place my Bible back on the table and that’s it. But what I was really doing is “Playing Church.” I was not “Absorbing the Word” which is becoming Christ-like.

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (Colossians 3:23, NLT)

I was more interested in my “outer” character than my “inner” character-  allowing the culture around me to control my lifestyle, choices, and decisions I made in my life. I was becoming more involved in the “reality of life” than into the “real of life”

Now five-years later I continue to find my way through this journey but the difference I have begun to focus more on becoming Christ-like  absorbing in the “Word of God”. I just don’t pull the Bible on Sunday then place it back on the shelf. I am absorbing myself into the word through reading, studying, and bible journaling.

Bible Journaling is where I combine artistic imagination into the scripture of the Bible. It’s new for me but many individuals have been using this technique to absorb more into their FAITH and understanding of the word of God.

It gives me joy and excitement when I receive new tools to use in my Inspire Bible (NLT) and my Praise Book. So you can say I have taken a counter decision to not focus on on the outer- fashion, music, television, peer/co-worker discussions, but the inner to bring out my happiness.

Now I want to spend my time evolving into the word of God. Because being a WIP take time and its worth the process.

Be Blessed
